The 4CX is the largest line of backhoes that JCB produces. This 4-wheel steer is a product of JCB’s Efficient Design philosophy, responding to rising fuel prices and environmental concerns with class-leading efficiency and low running costs. It is equipped with a powerful 74.2kW DIESELMAX engine. This is why, in typical roading, loading, excavating and idle cycles, this backhoe loader actually delivers an average fuel saving of up to 16%. As it has got high ground clearance and 4 equal-sized wheels (like a wheeled loader), it can tackle terrain unlike any other backhoe.
- World’s most efficient backhoe across typical duty cycles
- Powerful 74.2 kW DIESELMAX engine
- Large 1.1m3 shovel capacity
- Integrated quickhitch with forks – best-in-class visibility and lift capacity
- 3-steer modes including 4-wheel steer and crab steer
- Best-in-class backhoe output – more material moved per hour
JCB 4CX backhoe loader engines are tried and tested; we’ve built 200,000 DIESELMAX units since 2004, and fitted them to a variety of machines across different applications and environments. An optional limited slip differential gives a JCB 4CX Eco superior traction and performance, as well as reduced tyre wear. The 4CX JCB backhoe loader has optional EcoRoad. Paired with JCB’s patented TorqueLock technology (the first lock-up torque converter fitted to a backhoe loader), it reduces fuel consumption (up to 25%), and increases working area (up to 10%). EcoDig is a standard-fit three-pump hydraulic system that provides high hydraulic flow and pressure at low engine speeds for improved fuel economy (by up to 15%), reduced carbon emissions and lower engine wear. JCB’s 74.2kW DIESELMAX motor produces its power and torque at low engine speeds; by operating your backhoe at lower revs, engine carbon emissions are reduced by up to 15%. Engine wear is also reduced, while refuelling intervals are increased. JCB’s Hydraulic Speed Control (HSC) automatically disconnects the first hydraulic pump when in fourth gear. This reduces fuel consumption on the 4CX Eco backhoe loader still further.

JCB 4CX Eco axles and transmission are designed to withstand a 12,000-hour design life; heavyweight axles are built to withstand serious shock loads. The rear axle alone has a static load rating of 25,000 kg, and a dynamic load rating of 12,500 kg. We use stress-relieved fabrication for the 4CX’s boom – by heating materials to over 650˚C for over 16 hours, we make sure the metal is evenly heated, doubling boom life. The robot welded single-piece chassis on the 4CX maximises strength and minimises weight. The 4CX Eco has been tested all around the world in every conceivable application. Pre-production testing included 100,000 loading cycles, 500,000 excavating cycles, 360,000 gearchange cycles, extensive bump track testing, and thousands of hours of endurance testing. We also carried out 600 performance checks on the production line, as well as extensive EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) testing on the 4CX; the latter ensures that signals from mobile phones and radios don’t affect the machine in any way. Our construction materials are tested to the limit by exposing them to extreme temperatures, chemicals, salt, oil and light. That way, we know they’ll survive the most hostile conditions. For rigidity and hose protection, there are flat plate D-pressing loader arms on the JCB 4CX. Hydraulic hoses are approved to work down to -40°C. Extensive bump track testing to ensure structural integrity. 1000s of hours of endurance testing. Tested across the globe in every conceivable application.
The JCB 4CX is designed to enable fatigue-free, productive day-long working. The best-in-class cab is rubber-mounted and isolated for low noise and vibration. Ergonomics are inspired by the automotive industry for familiarity. A heated air suspension seat, air conditioning, cool box, and a hot beverage machine are just some of the quality features you’ll find in the cab of this JCB backhoe loader. For fingertip control, greater comfort and excellent manoeuvrability on this backhoe loader, we provide ergonomic seat-mounted excavator-style controls and a choice of three patterns (JCB X, SAE+ and ISO+). Optional excavator-style backhoe and loader servo controls are also available. Inside this JCB backhoe loader, controls feature an LCD panel detailing machine hours, service information fuel level and system warnings. A 360° view through tinted windows aids comfort, productivity and safety. In particular, our innovative scoop design one-piece rear windscreen allows JCB 4CX backhoe operators to see right into the trench when excavating. The optional handheld tool circuit means you can increase versatility by using your 4CX Eco as a power source for handheld tools, such as drills, breakers, cutters and even water pumps.
Our EcoLoad package gives your JCB backhoe loader more tractive effort, faster cycle times, excellent pushing power and hill climbing performance. In challenging conditions, LSD (Limited Slip Differential) axles automatically kick in to provide additional traction. JCB backhoe loaders have always had class-leading braking performance but the 4CX Eco takes this even further. Modelled on car brakes, our power brakes utilise the existing hydraulic supply, reducing operator costs and daily service checks. The 4CX’s 4-ram self-levelling loader automatically adjusts the shovel on both the raise and lower cycle without any need for manual adjustment. It also provides unhindered front shovel visibility, especially when loading at height. JCB’s new hydraulic quickhitch makes attachment changing on the 4CX quick, safe and compliant with current and future legislation, while JCB Powerslide hydraulically sideshifts this backhoe for less effort and reduced site damage. At the digging ends of the JCB 4CX backhoe loader, our return to dig feature automatically resets the shovel into the digging position, and selectable transmission disconnect diverts maximum hydraulic power from the engine to the loader arms.
The JCB 4CX has best-in-class backhoe loader output, moving more material per hour than anything else. This is partly thanks to a large (upto) 1.3m3 shovel capacity, with best-in-class lift capacity and visibility for superior productivity. Braking on this backhoe loader is proportional throughout the pedal travel for superb control; the pedal position has been ergonomically lowered; and full floating discs reduce drag, improve fuel economy and increase road speed. The 4CX Eco’s optional 6-speed autoshift transmission with floor-mounted kickdown provides greater pulling power. LiveLink telematics can provide accurate up-to-date machine health information on your 4CX. The system can also maximise uptime by making it easy to service your machines at the most efficient times possible. Daily checks are easy to carry out at ground level, and all servicing is quick and efficient to perform for a JCB backhoe operator. Getting into a JCB 4CX Eco backhoe loader is easy and safe – there are large grab handles, a wide door opening, and open grid design steps that prevent dirt build-up.
